(political) partying w/ the upper crust...

THANKS TO GAYA AND HER ENDLESS CONNECTIONS, andrew and i were able to sneak into the election gala hosted by the u.s. embassy @ the renaissance hotel yesterday. it was a rather formal affair, w/ several u.s. nationals, the american ambassador and other foreign dignitaries in attendance (by the look of the limousines w/ mini flags flailing from the hoods). needless to say, we were slightly underdressed. luckily, the 'menu' was equally casual: hot dogs, popcorn and brownies (what d'you expect? U-S-A, U-S-A!). unsurpisingly, the mock election held turned into a blowout for obama (88 percent), w/ mccain garnering a measly 18 votes. unfortunately, we both 'forgot' our cameras and therefore resorted to snapping a couple of shots using photobooth. i'll post them soon enough (a brief rundown: large chandelier and projection screen surrounded by red-white-and-blue ballons and streamers, accompanied by life-size cutouts of the respective candidates). @ one point i was interviewed by a local camera crew but failed to inquire what station they were from. not too concerned as my response was pretty mediocre. the event certainly provided some valuable insight into american-malaysian perspectives and relations. now, if only obama would drop by KL on his way to visit his former "home" soil//
